At the start of the new semester, to comprehensively enhance teaching quality, the Department of Food Science and Engineering at the College of Food Engineering organized teaching trial sessions for new course instructors on August 19 and 21. Combining teaching demonstrations, interactive feedback, and experience sharing, the event ensured thorough preparation for classroom teaching and strengthened the educational foundation.

In their opening remarks, Zhao Dongmei, Vice Dean of the College of Food Engineering, and Zhang Junshan, Department Chair, emphasized the pivotal role of classroom instruction in talent cultivation. They highlighted that teaching quality directly impacts the college’s educational outcomes and disciplinary development, urging all faculty to prioritize course design, innovate teaching methods, and refine lesson preparation and delivery.

Teaching Trial Highlights:

  • Yang Shuang presented Food Contact Materials and Safety Testing, focusing on paper material properties and quality metrics with clear logic and emphasized key points.

  • Jiang Bowen analyzed internal and external factors of food spoilage in Principles and Techniques of Food Preservation, integrating theory with practical applications.

  • Yang Lutong demonstrated engineering drawing standards using “arc connection” examples in Engineering Graphics, linking concepts to real-world cases.

  • Geng Haoyuan explained protein fundamentals in Introduction to Food Engineering, bridging theory with industrial practice.

  • Wang Mengai and Cao Yang co-taught sections of Food Quality and Safety Traceability Systems, covering technical frameworks and theoretical models.

  • Geng Haoyuan, Yang Kexin, and Cui Mengni showcased practical skills in Scientific Literature Retrieval and Academic Writing, including database usage, paper formatting, and online search tools.

Expert Feedback:

Senior faculty members Wang Peng, Fu Hongyan, Wang Hongmei, and Zhang Junshan provided targeted critiques on content organization, delivery clarity, classroom engagement, and slide design. They shared actionable teaching strategies to help new instructors refine their approaches.

This initiative reflects the college’s commitment to teaching innovation and faculty development. With renewed energy, all instructors are ready to foster growth and excellence alongside students in the new semester. Let’s embrace the journey ahead!
